Crystal Palace Removals Health and Safety Policy
Crystal Palace Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removal activities. We recognise our responsibilities under relevant health and safety legislation and industry regulations and aim to go beyond minimum standards wherever reasonably practicable.
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our removals, packing, loading, transportation and storage services. Health and safety is an integral part of our business planning and service delivery across all locations in which we operate.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Crystal Palace Removals has overall responsibility for health and safety performance and for ensuring that this policy is implemented, maintained and reviewed regularly. Management will provide leadership, resources, information and supervision to ensure that safe working practices are developed and followed throughout the company.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for promoting a positive health and safety culture, carrying out suitable risk assessments, communicating procedures clearly and ensuring that employees are trained and competent for the tasks they perform. They must make sure that all work is planned and carried out with proper regard to the safety of staff, customers and the public.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees of Crystal Palace Removals have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions. Employees must cooperate fully with management in the implementation of this policy and the associated procedures.
Employees are required to follow training and instructions, use equipment correctly, report hazards, accidents and near misses promptly, and refrain from any unsafe acts that could endanger themselves or others. No employee will be disciplined for raising a genuine safety concern.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Crystal Palace Removals will conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all key activities, including but not limited to manual handling, lifting and carrying, use of removal vehicles, loading and unloading, operation of lifting aids, working in customers premises, and handling of fragile or heavy items.
Findings from these assessments will be recorded and used to develop safe systems of work, method statements and task-specific procedures. These controls will be communicated to staff and reviewed regularly or when circumstances change, such as new equipment, new premises or changes in legislation.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling hazards are central to removal operations. Crystal Palace Removals will minimise risks by planning jobs carefully, using appropriate lifting aids, and allocating sufficient staff for heavy or awkward items. Staff will receive manual handling training, including safe lifting techniques, team lifting, use of trolleys, dollies, ramps and other handling equipment.
All equipment used in connection with removals, including lifting aids, ramps, straps, furniture covers and securing devices, will be maintained in good condition, regularly inspected and replaced when damaged or worn. Employees must not use faulty equipment and must report any defects immediately to their supervisor.
Vehicles, Driving and Road Safety
Crystal Palace Removals is committed to safe operation of all vehicles used for removals and associated services. Vehicles will be regularly maintained and inspected to ensure they are roadworthy and suitable for their intended use.
Drivers must hold the appropriate valid licence for the vehicle they operate, follow all road traffic laws, drive responsibly and ensure that loads are properly distributed and secured prior to travel. Journey planning will take account of time pressures, likely traffic conditions and access restrictions to reduce the risk of accidents and delays.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our work is often carried out in customers homes, offices and shared spaces. Crystal Palace Removals will take all reasonably practicable steps to protect customers, visitors, neighbours and the general public from risks associated with our activities.
Where necessary, staff will use signage, barriers or other controls to create safe working areas, particularly when loading and unloading on public roads or near pedestrian routes. Special care will be taken to avoid trip hazards from equipment, ramps and packing materials, and to maintain clear escape routes in buildings.
Training, Information and Supervision
Crystal Palace Removals will provide appropriate health and safety training and instruction to all employees according to their role, experience and responsibilities. Training may include company induction, manual handling, safe vehicle operation, working at height where applicable, use of equipment, emergency procedures and site-specific requirements.
Training will be refreshed periodically and whenever significant changes to working practices or equipment occur. Supervisors will monitor work on site to ensure that training is applied in practice and that safety standards are maintained.
Accident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, incidents, near misses and cases of work-related ill health must be reported promptly through the company reporting system. Crystal Palace Removals will investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Where required by law, incidents will be reported to the appropriate enforcing authorities. Records of accidents and investigations will be maintained and used to monitor performance and identify trends for continuous improvement.
Welfare, Health and Wellbeing
Crystal Palace Removals recognises that the physical and mental wellbeing of employees is vital to a safe and efficient service. We will provide suitable welfare arrangements, including access to rest breaks, drinking water and hygienic facilities where reasonably practicable in the context of mobile operations and customer premises.
We will seek to manage fatigue, stress and workload fairly, and encourage open communication about health concerns that may affect the safe performance of work tasks.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Crystal Palace Removals is committed to consulting with employees on matters affecting their health and safety. Employee suggestions and feedback are welcomed and will be taken into account when reviewing working practices and this policy.
This Health and Safety policy will be reviewed at least annually, and more frequently if there are significant changes in legislation, business operations or following serious incidents. Updates and any changes to procedures will be communicated to all staff.
By working together, Crystal Palace Removals aims to maintain high health and safety standards, support our workforce and provide a professional, reliable and safe removals service to all customers in our service areas.
